Doomsday PreppersAre you a Doomsday Prepper?  I finally got a chance to sit down and watch this show and I have to admit, it was pretty entertaining.  My favorite part was after 20 minutes of these people saying how they were prepping for some ridiculous catastrophe that was coming, the voice-over would say “What’s the chances of that actually happening? Practically non-existent.”  I mean the Earth’s Magnetic poles switching?  Texas moving down to the equator? Really?  That’s what we are worried about?

I do have to say that I learned a few things.  I would never in a million years have thought that rubbing eggs with oil keeps them fresh for a year and a half+ or that you could dip cheese in food wax to store it. (Although that last one should have been a little obvious considering when I buy cheese it’s covered in wax, I just never thought of doing it at home.)  After watching it I also saw the wisdom in having some kind plan in place in case something did happen, perhaps a predetermined place to meet up if things get crazy.

The main thing I saw was some obvious overlap between “Extreme Couponers” and “Doomsday Preppers” because these people had stockpiles that put mine to shame.  I’m not talking toothpaste and deodorant, these people were stockpiling 5 yrs worth of water, grains, and other food stuffs.  They were also checking out deals to find the best times to buy things so naturally I thought of you guys.  Are any of you couponing to prepare for the End of Days?  Are any of y’all sitting on 55 gallon drums of grain or water?  I’d be interested to know how much overlap there is between our communities.  Leave a comment with your story, I’d love to read it!
