Halloween is almost here! I got a chance to participate in the #BOOitForward campaign where I got to make a cool Trick or Treat basket and give it to my neighbor. I was really excited because I’m not the most “craft-y” person in the world but I really wanted to do something cool. I guess I’ll let you be the judge of that.
First stop: Walmart! Where I picked up some delicious Mars® candy and these cool little 6 packs of Halloween themed 7UP® and Sunkist®. There’s a great printable coupon that will let you save $2.00 on on ONE (1) 6pk 8oz Cans or TWO (2) 2L and 2 bags of Mars® Candy available here.
Next up, grab a few arts and craft supplies and I’m ready to go. Here’s what I decided to go with.
I used the construction paper to cut out little ghosts and bats. Turns out, drawing bats is harder than it looks if you have little to no artistic talent!
Then I used a little tape to decorate the bag of candy. Scary!
I decided to wrap them in strips of white construction paper and draw Halloween scenes on them. Here’s my ghost!
Next I printed up a “We’ve Been BOO’d” card from the Boo Center to explain what is going on. You can print your own, just follow these instructions.
- Cut out this “We’ve been BOO’d sign.”
- Fold the “You’ve been BOO’d” greeting card (page 2) and tape openings together.
- Include the card and sign when gifting BOO bundles. Then I snuck over to my neighbor and left them the goodies! Which was fun because they had spent the entire weekend building a beautiful new front porch and I hadn’t got the chance to see it up close yet.
That was so fun! We had some candy left over so I decided to whip up some sugar cookies with M&M’s® icing. Here’s how I did it. First just whip up some standard sugar cookies, (Here’s a great recipe) throw a little orange food coloring in the mix and cut them out using a pumpkin shaped cookie cutter. and let them cook and cool. Here’s how I made the icing/filling.
Throw a few M&M’s® in a blender or food processer and blend them to a powder. Pour the powder in a bowl and add a tsp of butter. Microwave the butter and candy for about 10 seconds to melt the butter and stir until a uniform paste.
Put the filling on the back of one cookie and use a second cookie to make a sandwich. Then you can use the left over to stick a little piece of candy on top. Here’s how mine looked.
Yummy Yummy! You can also enter to win the #BOOItForward Sweepstakes in the widget below.
